About

Welcome to Anastasia Suen’s Picture Book of the Day, a Book Links Featured Blog!

Children’s books have always been part of my life. The author of 106 books, I wrote my first book when I was eleven. When I started teaching elementary school in 1977 (K,1,5,6) I was teaching my young students to write, so I wrote for them and they wrote for me.

Now I teach writing at elementary schools as a visiting author. I talk to the students about how a book is made and I guide them as they write. I focus on the six traits of writing because that’s how I have written for years.

I started this blog after speaking at a teacher’s conference. I brought new picture books and talked about how to use them in the classroom. The teachers were so responsive that I decided to create a blog. (After blogging at Blogger in 2007 I moved the blog to Wordpress in January 2008 and here to edublogs for Children’s Book Week in May 2008.)

Teachers are busy so I get right to the point. Monday through Friday I post a new picture book on this blog with a 1 or 2 line plot summary (no spoilers!), a short quote from the text (in italics), and a writing activity for two of the six traits.

I review recently published picture books from my local library and books sent to me by publishers. (I do not review every book sent to me.)
